I hate to sound harsh, because there are times when we do listen to the non-licensed users and what they have to say. However, this is not one of those cases -- I refuse to let non-licensed users who contribute nothing to the community drive our licenses or release schedule.
If you think $150 is too much for this product, then again I suggest you move on. If you feel we OWE you 6.5 as a free user, then I suggest you move on. This is a business, and we are driven to maintain a level of service for our paying customers -- everything that we give to the free community is just our good nature, nothing more. Had I taken the initial suggestions from the users 2 years ago we would be on the verge of releasing 7.0 -- and everyone would be buying new licenses again. I considered THAT to be greedy, and that is why this is 6.5, not 7.0.
I will be talking with the beta users again shortly to determine if 6.5 will be released early or not. The initial response shows me that if I start allowing our current customers to release their products, while still keeping 6.5 in closed beta, then our customers will be happy. Therefore this is now the route I am looking into. The reason for this is clear to me now, if I force an early release with less than perfect docs and tutorials, then people will complain that we released an incomplete product -- which I feel will hurt us more than having people call our software a "ghost". (Ask the hundreds of beta users, they know the product is MUCH more than vapor-ware.)
We'll see how things go. Right now I'm spending time listening to the users who PAID for the product, however, not those that are driven by their own motive to get 6.5 into their hands freely.
