first post ever in the community, no reputation and you've got an exe for us...
not making any accusations but I for one have no reason to trust any binaries from you.

Hmmm, doesn't look too bad, though having to wait 60 seconds to see a picture is a bit of a pain. imageshack.com for the win.

I'd started a project some time ago based on the same code but found it to be fairly unrealistic due to the way I was drawing my cloud textures. Can you post information about how you: - Created the cloud textures in the first place
- Hope to simulate time-of-day lighting realistically in the cloud
- Simulate internal depth (volume) and cloud density
Key snippets of your code would be nice, this is a developer area after all.

Hi
The the source code (VB6 project) is available here: http://uploading.com/files/f7696c91/VC3DCloudTerrainSource.zip/
The code is really messy, please excuse - but it works and I'm not a programmer... maybe in the hands of a real programmer this application can be taken to another level !
Most of the code comes from snippets that are/were available on this forum at some stage. Unzip the source project to the same folder where you've installed VC3D Cloud and Terrain - this should have the sub folders and files needed to run the project.
Regarding your other questions: The textures are mostly png with transparent background and can be created with GIMP - I also use any other textures I can find but there are only a handful that work well. You can also combine several textures to get a shadow effect in the clouds, etc. Here is an image - comes close volumetric clouds: http://img840.imageshack.us/i/fakevolcloudsvc3d.jpg/
Regarding the other two questions - there is a lighting implementation in the program but don't quite know how it works. I did not take a scientific approach to creating the clouds at all - tinkered with smoke.cls and other procedures in init.bas to get a working effect. Look at Subs distanceToCloud() and MoveClouds().
Cheers
