Hey there! This is Strider here. I've been working on a project for some time now, and  it's time to show it off.  It is a game demo called OMECHA.  OMECHA was a project started by me and my brother. I am a 3D artist and he is a programmer.  We have been working on it since January and thought it was about time we posted something.  The demo  is not yet available for download but you can check out some shots of it here -  http://www.tealstardrop.com/jlederer/omecha.htm

and download the trailer here - (11 MB and about 1:30 min)
http://www.tealstardrop.com/jlederer/movies/trailerlarge.avi

-DESCRIPTION-
OMECHA is a 1st/3rd person battle game.  You control mechs and pick up weapons to destroy your opponents.

-FEATURES-
Terrain-based outdoor world
1st/3rd person perspectives
2 Playable characters
3 AI Opponents
Dynamic lighting
Interactive HUD
Infrared Radar Screen
Sprite/Billboard Effects
Shader Effects
Force Feedback/Rumble
5.1 Surround Sound

I did all the graphics/models/textures/animations/... so I'd be glad to get some feedback on them.  Hope you enjoy it and I'm glad to finally be a part of the Truevision community.  Cheesy

Here's a taste -

That is very impressive.  Nice to see a project that is more than just a cool idea and one that shows some real progress.

Can't wait for the playable demo.

that looks pretty sweet.  As with the others, can't wait for a demo.  Multiplayer would be awesome as well, and I'm sure that anyone here would be quite happy to help out with that aspect if you needed it.

Wow, what a great reaction. I'm glad you like it.  As for multiplayer, you never know.  Not in the plans yet anyway.  And as for never hearing of the game before, we didn't find it necessary to post any questions during development because everything we needed was already asked. We just looked in the appropriate places, like the forum search and the TV3D docs and tutorials.  Following those examples you can do anything.

Anyway, I've been trying to get the demo to work on a different computer before releasing it to you guys, but I've been running into a few problems.  As soon as I figure them out, I'll release the demo. Most likely it will be released this weekend. I'm sure it will still have some bugs, but if you're that anxious to play it, I will release it.  I could use some testers anyway. Smiley

1) Your game looks very VERY cool.
2) More people should do what you do and just browse forums to answer all their questions :p

@ Strider,

For whatever reason, can't explain but it seems I've seen this avi or screen shots before. I don't know why but I know I have. I just couldn't get away from thinkin about this while watching the clip.

Had you previously shown this in TV or in some other engine/site location?

Whoa, talk about Deja a Vu.  :?

@Rocky
As far as I know, the trailer is only available on  my website. I have never shown it on the TV forums until now.  The only thing I can think of is maybe you were in Minneapolis and saw my senior show in May. OMECHA was exhibited there and maybe you saw it. I doubt it, but that is the only other time it has been shown.  You can check out the exhibit on my website - http://www.tealstardrop.com/jlederer/exhibit.htm

The OMECHA v1.0 Demo release is coming soon.

After a lot of testing and retesting I think we came up with a version that should run on other computers if you have the following installed -
DirectX 9.0b
Truevision3D SDK 6.2
VB6 Run-times
XBOX Controller Installed

I would think most of you would have that already except for the XBOX controller. The demo is untested with other controllers, but may still work, just with differently mapped buttons/analogs.  If it becomes a problem or too many of you don't have controllers, we can always remap it to the keyboard sometime down the road.

I was able to get this demo running on a 750MHZ Pentium 3 Processor w/ ATI All-in-Wonder 7500 video card and 256MB of RAM (Granted, I got about 8 fps and ran out of texture memory like that), but it should work on most computers I think.  My development setup is an AMD Athlon XP 2800 w/ ATI DV Wonder 8500 video card and 512MB of RAM and it runs flawlessly. As long as you have a decent processor, recent video card (mine's even pretty old), and a good amount of RAM, it should run well.

If you have problems running the demo, post your system specs and the error you are receiving and we will try to solve the problem.

So here it is - [EDIT]  Demo has been removed until further notice

Included in the OMECHA v1.0 Demo.zip are 2 exe files. One with sound and one without. We found that our program had problems with certain sound cards, so if the OMECHA.exe doesn't work with your setup, try the OMECHA -sound.exe.

Have fun blowing stuff up and make sure you read the readme.txt before playing or posting questions.
