I do believe it would just end up being much easier for you to purchase a truevision license because you don't appear to have a clue in hell what you're doing anyway.

Well for collation, I'd say I find Kellogg's Vector chocolate bars to be a very good and usable.

Hahah, hope I didn't make a french-exclusive joke.... Collation is the french for "snack", thought it was the same in english.
And bleh.

Trying to create your own engine can be a difficult but extremely rewarding project no matter how much you actually accomplish. I would suggest you look into www.gamedev.net for info and use Google to find some tutorials on DirectX.

Good luck,

A great book to help u is Andre la mothe's - TRICKS OF THE 3D GAME PROGRAMMING GURUS -  (im not shouting is just the way its written on the cover)or as i call it the Bible(well its as thick as one) its an awsome read, i made a small bob/biltter engine(rest is way above my current math lvl) you would need to know how to program in c++ thou.

I dont think you should use only VB to make an engine.

A few simple ways to make a graphics engine (not proven to work, but you might be lucky) Smiley

1. Go download the Direct X 9 sdk form microsoft's website.

2.Install it.

3.Go thru the documantation and read thru it over a few times, couse you will find yourself going back to it at later stages.

4. Examine every line of VB code provided, and try to munipulate it or make it better. (for Testing only)

5.Along with the documentation, you will get source code examples and varuis pre-built projects. From there, you should be able to evolve on your graphics skills and eventually you might end up codeing a graphics engine.

Another word of advice:

Try making small grphics engines, like 2D sprite ones, and then move on to Doom style engines (NOT DOOM3!), and from there you can move onto small graphics engines.

If all else fails, go and code TrueVision 3D, which is a already made graphics engine for you, so it will save you time, and you wont have to go thru everything mentioned above!

Have fun, and if you get stuck, dont give up.

P.S. Go check out a series of books called "Game Programming Gems", there are 4 volumes (i think), and they focus on every single aspect of the game programming, like Mathematics and AI. The only problem is that it is C++ and uses OpenGL, but is worth the try.

www.planetsourcecode.com/vb

search 3d

a few decent engines have been started on there, such as the nemo X (I'm not sure if the name has changed lately) engine, theres also a 3d shooter on there (check the hall of fame).

But to tell ya, I've been searching engines for a few years now. What your doing IS NOT GOING TO BE EASY.

And don't even bother trying to make it look like TV yet, tv has been years in development by a dedicated team.

Start simple, work your way up.

hendry, if your not going to use tv3d, then i'd try NemoX, i helped work on that engine for a while and i used it a lot.  Its not as fast as Tv, but its is free.  Even though you can develope in Tv for free, so i would still suggest using Tv.  Plus you have the added advantage of Tv using Dx9 but still allowing vb, while NemoX uses DX8 which is slower.

just a thought

Try either directx4vb.com or vbgamer.com , Ppl might be more supportive.
It is true however that VB tends to be used more commonly with 2D graphics for retro gaming. No harm in doing 3D, Just don't be expecting top notch performance.
