Is there any motivation for using VB6 besides nostalgia these days?
NO!!
and yes, winsock is lame, thats true, but is a good start to learn about how to create client-server applications.

I still use VB6.
Read about my new VB6 project here:
http://www.truevision3d.com/forums/indevelopment/hurtle_the_ballistic_rts_physics_rts_game-t19935.0.html;msg136605#msg136605
And as I'm totally "out there", I'll try to use shaders in VB6 in the near future.

I have been working on something in VB6 with 6.5 for sometime just to show that you can still do something cool in VB6.

It started there but has now become something mixed between Gears of War, Turok, and Lost Planet.
