ATI gave you $500,000 to port quake from Linux to Windows?  Where do I sign up for ATI to give me money like that

Aside from the obvious, such has how does a non-existent company procure funds.  I'm wondering why self proclaimed "linuxboy" would be porting anything to windows?

Sorry but some of the users saw this guy come into the chatroom.  Even I find it rather difficult to believe.  Here is what he stated:

#1 - He wrote an XBox game engine called Shiva (showed us a website and all, minus screenshots, yet claims to be the fastest engine ever).

#2 - He has not formed a company

#3 - He recieved $500k of VC from Activision.

#4 - He wrote his XBox engine on Linux, and does not even own an Windows machine.

Now, let me point out what I know.

#1 - Activision is not a VC.  They might pay for development, but that is external contracting, not VC.

#2 - The XDK website does not list them on their page as a registered user of the XDK.

#3 - To get VC you first need a company, next you need a VERY DETAILED design document, and generally with sample/prototype code, or proof of concept programs.

I am sorry, but I sat in the chatroom with him for close to an hour, and heard him say he went to GameDev and 3 other gaming websites with this same message, and was flamed on every single one.

No matter how controlling I am of the community, there will always be posts such as these that inflame the community, especially since it has absolutely no relevance to Truevision3D or the TV3D SDK.

The Shiva 3D engine?

If that's what people are talking about... originally a Russian thingy?

Just don't underestimate the Russians :-). Some of my colleagues and greatest minds i've ever met are from Russia.

Btw, did you know that Jasc Paint Shop Pro seems to be coded mostly by Russians...

This guy may well be speaking the truth, though maybe presenting it naively.
