hi everyone.
I'm "hiddenloss", junior designer/creator of the Loss Lands.

I'd like to say, first of all, that i just found out about this 3d engine  tool, and it 's look really cool. we currently in  search of  an engine to work on and programmers.
...but also,2d , 3d artists, sfx and all the "game-related" position possible.

to be quick and clear, the game will be a S.H.A.R.G. ( survival horror action rpg game ..i love it complex ha ha ha ) in the heroic fantasy universe.

gameplay  style : kinda zelda windwaker,, morrowind,  jak and daxter, fable, tenchu  action based with skills, races and classes "revamped" .....

story REALLY short synopsis : In a world ruled by humans ( on 8 races possible )  the king's been assasinate, the human kingdom send armies on the Loss Lands and begin rampage for the search of the assassin. a "replacing" king comes in, with some strange mana powers and gods, all 8 kingdom then enter some political troubles and monsters comming from nowhere are beginning lillings all over the lands....your character will come in this troubled times founded almost dead by farmers. you may be related to the conflict, maybe not, unable to remember where your from ...
this REALLY short text CANT give you an ideas of the all plots ( and in wont give it to "un members" of the project since Id like people to  play it ha ha ha )

the demo will be in fact the tutorials at the beginning of the game ( with some added quest and changes) IT should be completed in 1 or 2 hours of gameplay...

********the ad itself *******

The loss lands team is a non-pro team who's working, via a "virtual studio" solution, to put up a clean and correct game demo online.

The Losslands.net project's currently in "programming team search" mode since last month. We lost our programmers from the french version ( those who know a litle about us will remember that we started in french in version 1.0 ) and need people/team who's interested in working on the game demo project.

two way of working is possible for programmers interested:

       1. just join us in "normal ways" by writing me at hidden@losslands.net and taking a username via the forum . Please put your real name in your username details or send it to me so i can put  realname/nickname together.
       2. in another way of work, we can collaborate with an already existing programming team interested in game dev. Your engine must be ready in a couple of month OR using a free solution  and your team must be interested in putting up a game demo for the end of this summer/fall 2005.

the tasks for the basic demo are :

        * programming/integrate the basic game engine
        * programming/integrate objects classes (class "1" can do this, class "2" can do that and contains this)
        * programming/integrate a "neverload" map using exterior/interior levels
        * programming/integrate an action batle system (exemples :zelda-like, jak and daxter-like)
        * programming/integrate a quest systems ( get me this, go their, talk to him etc.)

[ The next features are, i think, necessary for a game in 2005, but knowing that this project's about non-pro's and volunteer team, we know some features will be almost impossible to implement. You could say those next  features are a "wish list" of mine hey hey ]

Task for a more "up to date" engine would be :

        * programming/integrate a physic systems ( npc pushing objects, fight broke table)
        * programming/integrate the leveling systems ( making "this" update "that" skills )
        * programming/integrate an action based AI (fight,block,flea)
        * putting up a "lan" and/or web multiplayer capabilities ( secret for now ha ha )
        * programming/integrate map editor ( devteam use and player )

    and mush more ...

So if your interested, please contact me (hidden@losslands.net)
feel free to visit us and hope to see you soon in the team...

Are you a programmer yourself? It's funny how many people here ask for other people to do coding.

I am not joining but i wish you good luck and look forward to play the game when it's done.

- no, i'm not programmer, its the reason I post here. My job's a design one. for this project i done those :
# story writing
# design, draw and give life to creatures
# design, draw and give a background and a life to civilisations.
# install "rules" of gameplay
# install "leveling" systems
# putting along a coherent universe (making it believable )
# modeling
# animations
# map creation

so even if i had some sort of programming talent, i probably could not do it lacking time ....

i edited the first post, giving you an idea of the game concept.

thx and i still wait for email s from talented programmers.

hiddenloss, everything I say is meant to be constructive criticism.

You have to understand that we face people like you, and projects like yours everyday. While you may think your ideas are unique, and that your odds of success are better than those who came before you, that is most likely not the case. You will have to do a lot to prove that you have the skills necessary to make this project work, or else you won't have much luck recruiting people.

Now, game ideas are a dime a dozen. Most people can spin up a competent storyline given a few days of hard brainstorming, and a GREAT many people have ideas about how a game is supposed to play, how the plot must run, and how the story must be told. There are more people of that type than people who are actually able to put their ideas to use.

If you are a first-time game developer, look to a smaller project. You will not be able to manage a large team, not on your first go anyway. Don't get too ahead of yourselves. Don't think about publishers until you have a working demo. Likewise, don't think about musicians and story writers until you have a running game engine. Don't think about concept artists until your art pipeline has been nailed down. Don't think about rules and gameplay levels until your game is at least somewhat playable. You may have seen documentaries about how all of this is meant to work - but you're not in the bigtimes, you have neither the time, nor money to make it happen that way. The most successful game developers are those that keep the core team small and competent.

Which brings me to my next point. The team must be, above all else, competent. What goes into making a game? Audio, models, animations, textures, maps, and perhaps above all, code to bring it all together. How many of these will you be able to contribute to your own project? For a small group, each team member must be able to provide MORE THAN ONE talent - otherwise your group wouldn't be very small, eh? If you have NONE of these, then how can you expect the people who DO have these skills to listen to you?

Just some thoughts to ponder over.
