Hello everyone,

Before I get flamed like everyone else usually does I'd like to say I'm not planning on making the next everquest.  I have no intentions on even coming close, but I would like to explore the world of online gaming further.

Anyways,

My game I plan on creating is based on the idea of a Heaven and a Hell.  You have the Light side faction, the dark side faction, and of course neutral and rogue factions beneath that.  Different classes of angels and demons fighting each other.. coming together to defeat other nasty creatures etc.  Eventually maybe some PVP or something?  God and Lucifer exist, but you may never see them (expansion of sorts? lol)

I'm mainly looking for another programmer ( preferably a 6.5 tester ) that is willing to just explore "mmorpg" creation and design.  I'm basing my server framework off of EQEmulator's design, but adding my own touch to it.  It's going to be zone based. Outdoors only at first, but interiors also as we progress.  I really dont want to get ahead of myself.

I really have no design document.  I am just adding features as I go, but I have a general Idea for a basic game layout.  Once I have finished all of that basic stuff, I was going to REALLY get going on design and other aspects of the game, such as magic/styles/storyline and much more.

If there are any coders that are interested in a small side project ( maybe just a few hours of coding on the side ), or want to devote much time to this and realize/complete a project, and of course are looking for some experience and fun. Then please shoot me a PM.

As you can imagine there is quite a bit of coding, and I would rather have someone to learn with. Smiley    I already have a network engine programmed, a basic 6.5 game engine down. and a bit of the login server is done.  Im not even worried about art as of yet, but maybe in the near future.  I just want to get the game mechanics down right now.

Thanks for your time,
Ezikial

Sounds cool.

I dont think you will get flamed as it seems like you have all ready started and got somewhere and you dont need everyone on a team. Usually those that get flamed are the ones you have started nowhere, have no experince, or wants everyone to do it for them.

Well thank you GoodVillian. Glad to hear you like my idea.    I came up with the idea while watching something on the History Channel about Angels and Demons.  I thought to myself... "Well.. the bible and other sources have already thought of a story line for me, and classes of angels and demons."  Plus I have always been interested in the back-running of the divine world.  It's something different, but still can be attached with games like eq for fantasy, or anarchy online for sci-fi.

An update from yesterday:
Just finished a basic SQL reader/writer class for the servers. Now I can read teh d4t4.

I see that you've created an SQL reader/writer class but I highly suggest you take a look at this: http://www.ormapper.net/

It is very closely based upon Object Spaces for .NET and will be a nearly seamless transition (same classes, methods, etc.) when MS finally does release it. My team uses it religiously in our production evnironment at work and it is simply amazing. It saves us an unbelievable amount of time and allows you to keep everything true OOP without fiddling with clumsy Typed DataSets.

BTW... nice idea. Got a website? IRC channel?

No website quite yet, although I just set up an IRC channel on irc.desolation.org - #EternalBattle.

Thanks for your suggestion, I will look into that right away. Smiley

I don't really have the time to join any teams - but if you need any advice every so often I'd be happy to do what I can Smiley

I started with TV a couple years ago with my own homebrew mmorpg, so I know what your going through.
