I spend a couple of hours searching around the forum posts for external resources and found lots of good sites (which are just cached), so are no longer active!

It's such a pity that those good resources are no longer available  :?

What happened? Did people loose their interest and went elsewhere or did they just stop programming?

Especially when starting out using an engine users need all the resources and help they can get!

In order to help lift the TV community resources I am putting up a new website, focusing mainly on TV and TV programming.

It will also have a forum where newbies can ask the questions they wouldn't normal ask here because they wouldn't want to get framed.

I'm also a newbie in TV, so I will try to fill the site up with everything I learn and create (step-by-step) tutorials on it.

I'll post details as soon as I have it ready!

The forums will have language specific posting areas, so you can find code snippets and tutorials written in your language of choice!

This external resource is for all of us, so all help and ideas are welcome!

Thanks

This would be really good however i'm a C# developer myself but i would be glad to give you my first 2 tutorials (.Doc format) for your website. The tutorials are for TV6.2

If/When i create other do you want me to post them for you seperatly or email them to you.

i've just purchased TV6.2 but i am still a newbie myself so your site is very apealing.

Thanks for the effort.

Hi Lyrical,

Thanks a lot for your offer!

I think that would be great!

Perhaps, I should have phrase my words properly. (I've rephrased my previous post)

The website will focus mainly on TV programming (In any Language).

The difference is that for example to forums will have opened general topics + Language specific forums to post questions, tutorials etc!

I myself will be posting code in Delphi - because it's the language I use but all languages are welcome although each language has a specific area too.

This way, TV users can check for questions and code snippets and just search on their programming language of preference!

I am opened to ideas too!!!

In the end it's for all of us (TV Programmers), to use!

the reason why ppl loose their interest is the lack of news ...even i.. i ve been folowing the developpement since the opensource VB6 version of truevision... i check the forum almost everyday... no news nothing but nice screenies of shaders and preview tech...  not even a simple dev diary ( or a post every 15 days )

few days ago darkshadow told something about a posting a news in the evening ... about a week later still nothing ...

i know you guys are working very hard... i still beleve in truevision .. it s a great product ... but you should really take about 10-20 mins every week or 15 days to post something about the progression... ( see i m not even talking about the release  but the lack of news.)

as for the external ressources... there s a wiki ... just add content to it Smiley as long as truevision is alive ... those ressources wont disapear Smiley

( sorry for this post ... i usually dont complain ... but see how i suffer :p )

see ya Smiley

Hi Lil`Buh,

Yes, I think you DO have a point!

If you ask about how it's going they will tell you BUT I agree with you that at least every 15 days there sould be an update for everyone to see.

It just takes a couple of minutes to post it and it helps keep people interested!

I think TV3D is great (I wouldn't have bought a Licence if I didn't),  but people have to know that it's still alive and kickin  Cool

I'm not that old in this forum, but it's a fact that forums DO have ups and downs ... but that's not a bad thing all the time.

Many questions are being repeated over and over and they're usually the easy stuff. Considering this, i'm saying that people, once they get a firm understanding of the workings of TV3D, find it very easy to go on without much help.

Another thing is that many questions are already asked and answered ... if one uses the search option ...

I have sent ST3VO an email with my first tutorial on TV3D and c# including setting up VS2005.

An idea for the website and maybe this website would be to have some way of knowing if a post has been successfully answered, this way, when everyone is searching for an answer it will be easier to find the poists with the actual answer and not just a duplicate post.

Hope the new site goes well.

St3vo has made a very definate point - many TV-related resources have fallen by the way-side. Anti-Gremlin got busy with life, and he hosted a good many of the TV community resources. TV3D Filez is down, TVProjects is broken, and several of the urls posted here with examples are simply defunct.

However, this hasn't gone un-noticed by the developers. A new version of TV-Projects is being discussed with the possability of tight integration with the rest of the site, the new website Darq has been working on has a new section for articles, demos, screenshots and videos (uploaded directly to the TV servers so as to prevent dead links; and this isn't just some concept - I have seen and used it myself, it's there, ready to go when the rest of the site is). This also includes a moderated screenshots section that is more accessable than the current one.

The wiki is down, and for me, this is the greatest dissapointment. I had a good deal of articles I wanted to post up there. However, I am under the impression that the wiki will either be unlocked or (hopefully) rebuilt along with the new site.

However, in the mean time I whole-heartedly encourage St3vo and other's to host their own resources until everything can be collegated into one cohesive system.

Yes, tis true.  This is one of the reasons the new site has taken me so long.  I felt these sections had to be PERFECT to be included in the site, and I knew if we didn't have them we'd end up in the same boat with 6.5 a few years down the road.  There's even a mirror system in place, so files can be served on multiple sites, Anti-Gremlin already has this setup on a few of his servers to mirror our files.

On a side note, Andrew and I had discussed transferring TVProjects onto the TV3D server, and hosting it here.  Since the code and db was lost for the site, this is the perfect time to upgrade it, as well.  The system I'm currently looking at has built in integration for our community users, and will list the newest updated projects on the community members page.  (The new members page has become a very useful resource.)

Wiki down?  Just checked it, seems to be working fine on my end.  It was broken a bit awhile ago, but Zak PM'd me all sorts of problems and I knocked them out awhile ago.  Can you let me know if there are still problems?  But yes, I do plan on a quick redesign, and implementation of a basic TV3D theme across the wiki.

Ok, thanks.  =)

And btw, the new site had been delayed a few times, as I added new features or found major bugs.  The latest delay was caused by me making the entire site 100% valid XHTML.  The theme size is now down to just over 4000 bytes, and is compressed even further if your browser supports it.  This with the rollout of Zend and the APC cache system, plus our own internal cache will ensure that the entire site screams, even with all of the new features.  Wink

My mistake - a couple months ago, I was unable to edit the wiki. It appears everything is back to normal - great to see! I'll be adding work shortly =)

Hi,

Not sure if this is the right thread... but one feature on the forum that i really miss is the possibility to view the latest post first in a thread. Many other forums has that function, so i gues it' not that hard to fix.

Thanks,
Mike
