Hi i'm new here and i like what i see but i have a question.

When exactly is the release date for TrueVision3D v6.5? I notice it's been in development for 3+ years. Is this just vapourware?

Ta.

Its not vapourware. I'm using it right now. As for a release date, I dunno.

TrueVision3D v6.5 leaves alot of engines looking rather pale in comparison. I want to get my hands on v6.5 and take it for a test run. :?

I've downloaded and installed v6.2 and i am very impressed. I use C# and it is a perfect compliment. The high level commands in the engine are awesome!

Yea, its difficult to find an engine this good - in terms of feature set and ease of use. If you're impressed by 6.2, 6.5 will rock your world. Cheesy

I dunno if you're aware, but if you purchase a license you get access to 6.5 now( the license covers 6.5 too when its released ). It was something like 80 quid when I bought. So if you're really itching and can afford, i'd reccomend. It has a proper managed wrapper too.

I think i'm going to have to buy a license then.

Yep, ModelView and SFxE (Simple Fx Editor) are already available. Though there are other tools than SFxE available freely for shader editing, like nVidia's FX Composer or ATi's RenderMonkey.

Yes, and a particle editor. The only thing I would say is that 6.5 doesn't have any documentation yet. There are little tutorials and things stickied in the beta sub-forum and most of the functions, apart from the new classes of course, are 99% the same as 6.2. But if you don't mind trial and error, most things are pretty easy to work out by just using intellisense.

Edit: Aww, beat me too it. Wink

aye, i've used RenderMonkey before but it can be overkill for simple effects.

What do people usually use as a world editor? Do you guys import a huge X model as the world file and handle collision to keep your player on the floor, or write your own loaders, etc?

Its mixed. Dome do one some do the other. People often write their own editors too. Not really for creating the geometry but more for texture rigging, material sets, entity placements and scripting etc.

We had planned on the 6.3 and 6.5 releases to be in the hands of users by now, unfortunately I had a family funeral I had to attend, which set me back a few days and then we fell into Sylvain's exam period -- so now we're waiting a bit longer to rework one final piece and then users should see some updates.  Be patient, its coming...
