background on me: im still a n00b learning as i go. i started a FPS as my first project, it didn't get too far but i learnt alot making it and had alot of fun. i thought it would be far easier to create a rpg where less intelligent behaviour is required by the computer controlled characters.

well i decided to start a RPG and naturally i plan to give it multiplayer elements, but i definately don't have any plans to make a MMORPG so plz dun flame me. The single player part of the game is in a world naturally, but for the multiplayer part i was thinking of having an arena, where you can challenge other players.

Original elements (whats sets it apart from the rest) :  the combat for this game IMO, mixes the best elements from turn based and real-time. I find the drawback to realtime combat is the frustrating fact that you're mashing buttons and the characters ability in combat is at least partially determined by ones ability to keymash. Whereas turnbased, while allowing completely fair and efficient use of characters, tends to feel very dry and unrealistic as combatants take turns at attacking each other. My game will play out in real time but will have the fairness of a turn based game by allowing players to queue actions. You can enqueue a few actions on one character while he's executing them go to the next.

Beyond that its a run of the mill, RPG, any ideas/comments/(constructive) critism is welcome.

Note: i realise my trees need leaves

looks like a good start.  Kind of hard for me to see what's going on in the screenshot though, it's kind of tiny.  But then I guess it would be since I'm running at 1600x1200 resolution Wink

A lot of people here are independant programmers wanting to play with the engine, and do not have access to artists (well, not pay for any while learning) so this would be the reason why you may not find awesome 3d artwork in screenshots.. If you are willing to help this person then then not only will this person be able to show off better screenshots, but you will get credit for the awesome 3d art involved in it..

May I suggest you post pictures of some of your models into the off topic or recruitment section ? Good artist are difficult to find, and I bet a lot of people around here are looking for one. So.. don't be shy, advertise yourself, join a project and who knows.. in the end you might even make some money out of it.

Hello everyone, think a few of you may know me and this post got my attention. I completely understand why Petroz wants to develope a single player game and has my full support. As some of you know, I have been working on a RPG builder myself and geared it toward being in the dungeon and used the landscapes for external scenery. I also started with single player verses computer controlled characters. I also feel single player games are more adventurous and challanges the player to think. I personally would like to try Mystic Beam.
