Hi everyone, I'm new here.

I know the programming language VB.NET (the 2005 & 2008 editions) very well. I have been previously making 2d games using the VB 'paint function'. I made quite a few games, I even made a multilayer one! Anyway, I realised that I needed to start developing 3d games, having looked around a bit, I ended up here.

I have download TV6.5 which and the demo which sets up the TV6.5 engine into a picturebox. Unfortunately, i am stuck here, as i do not know any of the other commands. I looked around this forum for about 5 minutes looking for some VB.net tutorials but could not find any beginner ones. Does anyone here program in VB.net and have and tips/tutorials/projects which i can download.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

The 6.5 SDK is currently in open beta. So it is really lacking documentation and samples I'm afraid. However, you can ask for help here( an also on IRC, a lot idle, but when they're not idling they're more than willing to help in a friendly manner ). Also, there were some test docs generated a while back. They don't offer comments on the functions, or even major descriptions of any kind, but it's useful as a quick reference to newbies I guess. You can find that here: http://www.truevision3d.com/ds/docs/frames.html

You'll notice it was made with a demo etc, that is cause it was never really meant to be made public. But hopefully it can help you some. Welcome to the forum Smiley.

Thanks for your help Smiley

I will read though those and hopefully get a basic understanding of the functions. I would be very grateful if someone has a project made in VB.net which I can download. I find I learn best from other peoples code, but I wont copy your code I promise  Grin

I forgot to mention. A lot of the function calls are the same across the 6 version set of the API( with minor changes here and there of course ). Some people download the 6.3 SDK to learn from the samples provided there. As I say, there are difference, but they can give you a general idea of what to do and what not to do. There are some old VB.NET 6.5 beta samples here: http://www.theinstructionlimit.com/?cat=10  - these are mostly shader demos though, but again they might help a little in learning. They won't compile right away however, because they are from an older build etc. Anyways, good luck and as I said before, don't be afraid to pop on IRC and ask if you get stuck Smiley.

Just as a side note, that url Tom posted had the following remark "A15 - Paint on ground <- no way to do this in 6.5?".

Wanted to say. You can do this in 6.5, but 6.5 uses a different method for texturing landscapes( splatting ). Therefore the method for painting is different, and in some cases, more difficult.
