Dunno,  this list seems pretty generic and most if not all of it applies to any game with Multiplayer aspects.

What is realm crafter?  Is that even cosidered an engine?  I would use game studio before i went back to that.  I purchased RC once cause i wanted to make an mmo and htough it would be cool just ot make a simple little mmo, but i found the editors very hard to work with.  Not only that it would allways ask me to activate it....Microsoft wana be's.  And honestly when is RC2 coming out if ever.  its been atleast a year or close to it since they anounced it and even sade it is taking longer than expected.  After dealing with that i moved to TGE and the "Mydream RPG" which in my opinion is worth it but do not get it unless you know C++.  You could make a generic MMORpg with it but who wants to go generic?  So im back to makeing a 3d shooter, and will probaly make 5 more after the one im working on then making an mmo.  Many reasons 1 to get better experience before attempting to make an mmo.  2 so i could have a story set out before my "mmo" would take place. and 3 cause TV Network aint out yet.  I will say this if you are going to make an mmo as your first project which most would say wont happen save it and make a few games atleast.  If you dont want to go 2d then make a 3d game which is most likely will happen more so than an mmo for your first project.

There is a free network lib that have just been released by Ovek and it works marvelously well. As for first person shooters, if you have more than one player, shouldn't be considered a MMO? Well maybe not MASSIVE, but at least multipley online  Grin

In my opinion it depends on the amount of players.  if its around 10-20 i realy wouldnt consider it mmo but hiting the 32-64+ marks i would consider it an mmo.  even if you implement a 10-20 multiplayer. is a chalenge but doable as a first project depending on the willingness and dedication to the project as goes with any regardless of the experience level.

Gameplay is more important than the best graphics.

But it costs less because it doesn't have as good graphics, because they don't have to manufacture powerful CPUS and graphics cards. And the Wii is targeted at everybody, even the casual gamer, whereas the PS3 and 360 are more for hardcore gamers. I mean, Nintendo has a video on their website of an elderly couple playing Wii Golf! -obi

Anything Realmcrafter don't bother IMO.
There original didn't support any real database engine was flat files and access if I recall was a total waste of my time and money.
If you want a Realmcrafter clone (or rather equal) get ahold of Bards Tale Construction Set, it is stable, has more features and fun. Although single player. They keep jacking up there price and it is still blitz on the back end. I have nothing against blitz mind you, great products.

When it comes to MMO's if anyone is even partially serious and they are an Indy then buying a kit like Realmcrafter is utterly pointless. Get Unity3D www.unity3d.com or Visual3D.net http://www.visual3d.net/Home/tabid/36/Default.aspx or even go with TV3D with Rakknet backbone for networking (more coding but doable) finally if you got bucks to spend (quarter of a million dollars or more) HeroEngine http://www.heroengine.com now that engine kicks ....

Visual3D is a better, friendlier environment, and has a real time editor. Finally you could simply buy Torque, there are a ton of directions to go, Realmcrafter would be the last engine on this planet I would even think about using for writing a game.

Watch the video at this link for a REAL MMO generation engine:
http://www.heroengine.com/world.asp

Then think long and hard about time and effort that was put into that thing to get it to be what it is now. I have a friend who works their and have seen there environment, trust me, its a hell of a team they have and one hell of a workload.

50 free games, mostly MMORPG... Some are nice (the 2d one called Dofus is different) but most of them sadly reinvent the wheel.

Speaking of free ones, if you haven't tried out www.dark-wind.com, its worth a gander.  I think they did a really nice job of implementing turn based car physics...of course, that sounds like an oxymoron but in practice, it makes for some fun gameplay.
