You're definately going to want to get you some more programmers, or at least someone that is VERY good with network coding.

Talking from the point of view of sombody who finds these games dull. That line has particular relevance. What fun is being a hero, when everybody is a hero.

well i still think that creating a mud is a better idea than starting an mmorpg project.
The realm crafter looks neat but i dont like the line "no programming skills required" becouse the devs will propably use their time to create content packages instead of making the engine better.

You also have BigWorld..

http://www.bigworldtech.com/

made by Microforte who is in the same building as me for college (they talk to us a fair bit.. as Microforte sorta owns our college)

seems rather good... not aim'd at noobs though, you still actually need to know stuff.

why doesn't someone write a "MMORPG game designer - 'your own unique MMORPG in just minutes!'"

seems there's the market for it.

It would randomly generate a map, populate it with items you picked in a wizard, bung in some npc's with random names and quests and do all that stuff - and then let the user browser for a title bmp for the splash screen and put their name on it and make it look like their own work..

Bam! all those people who say "I want to make an MMORPG" can just be forwarded onto that program ($49.95 rrp!)

Well actually that is possible to create such application. The problem is not in how but why. Thats the same reason why we dont have "game creators" or anything near that let you do things quick.

There isnt really a market for it.

Example: Someone wants to make games, he trys to learn some things and finally want an mmorpg creator or something. then after a yeer he finally have more skills and dont even remember the "lame" times. He or she dont need an mmo creator becouse they know that the whole idea is stupid.

An mmorpg creator would be just like a guitar that plays by itselft. What the fun in that ?

Lets create something like this an we will have a big market of 10-13 yeer olds. Lets sell it 10 bucks per copy. We can olso release expansion packs that will simulate players so that you can ban them and kill them ingame with your l33t GM character...

The problem with that is all the MMORPGs created with the editor will be the same. Not only that poorly ran, everyone that will be running an MMORPG with this tool wont be a professional firm but most likely a bunch of kids on an up and down cable connection. If your going to make a MMORPG creator make it for yourself. This way you can make multiple MMORPGs and market them to the gamer market. However by no means is the MMORPG market a good one anyways. I highly doubt we will see another breakthrough MMORPG again. Its now a waste of time and money and large companies are even focusing on projects that are not MMORPG related for these reasons.

6. Have a knowledge of networking. If you dont your games networking will suck and this will take your game down with it.

Ah the only thing I'm actually good at :-)  Oh well, I'll make an MMO eventually :-)
