This is another game of life. Kinda fun to watch (you might have to run it a few times to see somthing interesting). The basis of this game is that males and females natrually attract (instinct) and that parents and children natrually repel.

this trying to achieve a model of what would happen if only 2 people were left to populate the world based on modern (what we would consider to be) acceptable behavior using fuzzy logic. The reproduction system is simply based on proximity. Which is obviously an oversimplified view.

one problem is that this algorithm is somewhat based on a linear memory model when it should be based on a tree structure.

I *love* programs like this... simulations, AI, what could be better? You can learn so much from them... and the outcome is often surprising if not very entertaining.

Hahaha! due to a bug in the program sometimes 2 male progranisms try to go at it or 2 females. lol the poor little buggers are so confused.

somthing else that i saw one time was Adam just ran away from eve and straight would not let her near him and they both eventually died of old age (total generations 1) lol thats especially odd behavior since adam and evebeing the first generation should have no repulsion factors in theory!

I also see alot of scenarios where the first generation has a child but it takes them so long that they die and the child is left alone (the fact that this code always seems to result in extinction after about 30 seconds or less indicates a serious flaw to me at least. the system only maintains a state of balance for a few seconds and then the population plummets to 1)

This thread reminded me of a little gravitation/particle test I once made with TV3D. So I fixed it up a bit, and here it is (77kb, see attachment). Visual Basic 2005, TV3D65. For some reason, the forum delivers HTML mime type instead of zip. It's a zip - just rename it.

The gravity simulation is done with the TV3D-builtin physics engine 'Newton': The 'Explosion' effect is used at every single frame using a negative value so that things get drawn to the point instead of blown away. Well, positive values also used: Similar particles repulse each other.

I removed the "MTV3D65.dll" from the bin folder, so you have to put your own in. The version I used: "TV3D SDK 6.5 Open Prerelease, released September 2nd, 2007" which can still be downloaded at this moment. Just put the dll into the bin folder of this project and start the exe. Or start the projectfile and run it in the development environment.

License: You're free to share this file / use it to learn from it / copy portions of the source. But derivative work is not allowed: Make your own project, even if it goes into a quite similar functional/visual direction.

a simulation of gravities? Thats neat so all you need for each particle is a density tag basicly. you can then calculate the mass & gravities. since desity can also be generated from  other characteristics theoreticly you could generate entire virtual solar systems from thin air (assuming you had the time and the processor power)

this thread is starting to look more and more like a "Spore" fanclub. hehe

yes i do like it. And the only reason that its not out yet is because the economy isnt ready for it yet. i could justify buying a 16+ node minicluster to play it, but only because i could use the cluster for more awesome stuff too. well then off of my soapbox i suppose.

Don't get me started... I've been playing around with these types of 'games' for a good number of years. Creatures is another good one and very addicting once you get started. Sims of course... but there was always something missing from the Sims... the AI has no "depth"... which is the reason I'm making my own sims-type... and in mine they can talk...and think... no jibber faking conversations...

... but ... I have to admit ... for some reason, simulating the male / female relationship has always intrigued me ... someday I'd like to start my own civilization, on some forested moon, far far away...  Smiley Ok, time to get off my soapbox...

i find this very weird. i guess i don't understand it.
why is the population capped at 31? and why does some Progranisms move so damn fast that i just i only see flashes of them?
