first, let me start off by saying

I love TV6.5..

because most of these engine comparason threads go into some sort of a fight, i really wanted to make that statement clear. I love TV

Unity3d, however, looks very very promising to me, in terms of graphics, particles, physics and everything. But the most important thing that got my attention was the editor. The editor looks like UnrealEd and functions like unrealEd with so much features to put on here.

if you want to check it out go to http://www.unity3d.com

everything is good and promising with 2 downsides:
- the price: its too expensive compared to TV. like $1500 for professional version which you HAVE to go with because of windows deployment option
-Environment: it's only for Macs

because it's only for macs, i was once tempted to buy a macbook and start up the unity because I really like the workflow of the engine. Of course, unlike TV, it is more geared towards games, and they have a lot of functions made just for games.  I think they are also using Mono for scripting so you could use c# and stuff..

Because Unity looks and feels so much easy, I really don't care about $1500 price tag, but I also gotta buy a mac..I'm trying this on my friends mac..but if i had a Mac, it would definitely be one of my top options.

yes unity is nice, it's not only for 3D games, i have 2 friends which have just finished a very very commercial installation visuals for VW, it will test the platforms stability since the installation shall run for 3 years, also they are working close with the danish guy's behind unity, really nice people and very talentet... (both unity and my friends hehe)

but the down side as you mentioned is, unity is only for MAC, don't expect a PC version behind the corner, thou you can export to PC, i son't understand why there's no PC version as they can build for the platform, tech stuff i guess.

they are now teaching in unity at my old design collage, so expect to see some great games in the future, would be interesting to compare
unity and XNA in a design forum, since unity is extreamly easy and fast to work in.

but im a PC guy, an like to control my computer there for API's for C# and TV3D is a great tool.

my 2 cent.

What's VW?

If only, only Unity3d was for PCs too....man..

I'm looking at Beyond Virtual too..seems to have similar architecture to Unity but has a lot of missing features and bugs.

I own 6.5 and I really am wondering when its coming out so i'm moving out to another engine..for now at least

Im really considering beyond virtual though..

From reading the details Unity does run on PC but you need the Pro version @ $1499.

VW = Volkswagen in Germany

Beyond virtual looks sweet I must say, it’s cheaper as well, but I guess TV3D6.5 will be out of beta soon as well ehh : ). Else we will have to press them a bit.

But you say it’s buggy. Hmm sad. Looks nice thou, I find TV3D extremely easy to work with in C#, from looking at the samples, I haven’t really messing with since I need to learn C# first hehe.

By the way: if any of you know some great tutorials on Graphic programming for C# I fullscreen I would love to hear about it (not using the standard graphics API’s since they suxx)

Your right.

It’s not out yet but will be, and it’s only the beta version, I have a thing about using beta’s, for a long time I’ve been using processing way back from version 062, and so many commands and structures have changed no to version Alpha1.(115), one thing is to learn a new language another is to get time using it without continuous having to change command structure. Therefore im not going to have a peek at XNA before it’s out of beta. But uhhh it looks good.

Look’s is one thing, speed and the amount of polygons you can through is another (and more important one for me and my installations.)

Unity development suite does NOT run on PC

it can DEPLOY to PC's but the editor is still for mac and they say will not be porting to windows that soon

BV(beyond virtual) just came out of beta, and released their 1.0 official version. Seriously, I'm loving this thing and im so addicted to this!!

I really like the workflow of this!

but when 6.5 comes out, i def wanna use it again

ahh yes i se it now. my mistake, unity is still not for PC.

beyond Virtual.. i installed it yesterday to see what i can do, but it's broke down all the time, it might be that the "trial" starter kit is still the beta i don't know but i wasen't impressed.

do you mean to say that you will now spend time working in beyond virtual and then in a few month go back to TV3D 6.5 Smiley. hehe you have way too much time on you hand, but i huess in all sense it just make you a better programmer to master more environments.
happy codeing

I do programming for my job...so i guess programming is kind of second nature for me

i have made presentable products with both TV 6.5 (not releaesd yet due to its beta stage) and Torque game engine

well torque....sigh......it takes A LOT of time and thinking to see how the engine does things "torque way" The engine code is all garbled and not fit. Thats what happens when you do addon's to huge program like that. It is just not organized

Beyond Virtual, if you use it, and try to import a model into a scene, you will be impressed how easy it is. That's because of an editor i guess...I mean..if truevision truly had an editor then I would strongly recommend TV to ANYONE...i still recommend it but not to programming newbies.

beyond virtual is also object based, which means that every object in the scene gets a script which defines its behaviors..I liked that idea

well TV and BV are two different products, and it's impossible to compare those two.
just my $0.02
