I don't like it. The forums don't show any relevant work (like you have in the forums here). You first have to pay ($250 dolllar?) for the engine to be able to visit the 'private forums'. In my opinion, the forums should always be open for the customers who want to know more about the community, support, current projects etc etc.
The last piece of code I found at the public forums is, as far I as I remember, from somewhere in 2003 which isn't comparable to anything you see here on the forums.
Also, the featured demo doesn't look that 'next-gen'. Right, TV3D hasn't got an official 6.5 demo, but I'm sure it would be better than the stuff which comes with LameEngine.

I have discussed with some people having the engine.
it's not perfect some things are missing but are beeing on develeopment.

But frame rate is very good with last "Next Gen" effects like shaders, shadows, lightmaps
it includes all tools needed for terrain , shaders , exporters etc ...

with what i heard its' a real package with all tools and editors you need to make a today game. With it's price , it's for serious indie teams making a rela commercial game,
not lone wolf.

It's really oriented to 3D artists and concentrate on game making , even if you need one or two C++ programmers in your team (their script is ont really done for the moment).

It's not comparable to TV3D that is a pure 3D engine where you have to make your tools and code your effects and engine management.
LawMaker is a package "ready" to make games oriented to 3D artists and for teams.

I recently evaluated LawMaker, so I thought this topic deserved an update. I'll do my best not to break their NDA.

LawMaker is as close to an AAA engine as you can get for under $500 in my opinion ($150 to start working with it, but a whopping $1500 when you are ready to distribute). The engine has an art pipeline and workflow easily as good as, or better than, Unreal (according to many users-- I have never used anything as nice as that). It boasts a powerful yet simple object creation interface and the easiest level creation tools I have yet tried. Terrain creation, texturing, object placement, entity placement, and lighting are all a snap. Also, the shaders and particle effects are top notch, the engine is very fast, pathfinding and other AI are already built in and ready to use, and their customer service is excellent and personalized. The kicker is that when your game is in fact ready to distribute, they will actually help you find a publisher or distributor with their connections in the game industry.

My only issue with LawMaker was similar to my issue with a few of the other engines, such as BV and C4: LawMaker was originally built for an FPS game, and it is questionable just how easily it can be extended to make other game types (like an RPG). It does use very easy Lua scripting for game logic, but knowing which engine components to apply that logic to is the trick. Some, but not all, of its C++ underbelly has been exposed to date.

Synopsis: Unless you are making an FPS and have a few extra dollars to spend, stick with TV3D.

Cheers,
Tim

I have a 2D RPG engine that runs its own scripts and I'd like to find a 3D engine to drop it into. From the looks of Lawmaker and engines like it, I'd have to throw all of my work away to use their scripting system. I'm sure there must be plenty of developers who are in the same situation I'm in.
