Just to add another one to the list:

http://www.ca3d-engine.de

It seems fairly useable to me.

Looks pretty cool, but it looks limited to fps style games.

Also, there is nothing there 6.5 can't do Smiley

But it looks cool!

I love how you said it looks "fairly" useable.  You are limited to just C++ with it, so that kind of throws about 3/4 of this community, if not more, away from it.  It is nice that it's DX and OpenGL, supporting all platforms.

I have to admit this is great. Its more of a shooting engine then a 3D engine.  Its sort of like HalfLife 2 modding but you dont have to use Steam and its a lot easier to use. The engine has a long way to go but its one of the few engines I have an interest in. The cons are C++ only but thats not bad, I can live with coding in VC+. Its OpenGL which I perfer DirectX over but its a sacrifice for multiplatform I guess. The license is open source if you buy it from my understanding which this will be the only way you can easily make a non shooting game. But like all other things playing with this is more of a hobby then something serious.

ca3d is actually a pretty decent engine.  i succeded in adding vehicles to it but lost that code since i switched to my paintball game.  the forum moves very slow since there are only like 30 users and we are all pretty good friends so we just talk on msn or email.  Carsten (the developer) is very friendly and helps you thru alot of problems and has added more than one feature to the engine for me.  It is kinda limited to fps but its good at that.  If u were really ambitious you could change it to something else but might be alot of work

This Carsten is not to be mixed with Karsten Isakovic, Berlin, who did a great job in maintaining the (more or less official) "3D Engines List" all from the early 90's on. That was THE place to go to when wanting to get the latest news at the 3D engine front. The list is no longer maintaned since 6/2000, as there are better resources today.

http://cg.cs.tu-berlin.de/~ki/ <- only 5 years ago we were there.

The list holds an item called the "VB Revolution" engine, creaed by nobody less than Simon Theophil. Apparently that engine, now known as Revolution3D, has had something to do with this TV3D engine a long time ago. Also big names like Patrice Scribe appear in the lists. I think that Patrice Scribe has been important for Sylvain's own understanding of 3D :-).
