Hi everyone, I've been using 3dstate for ten years now, since it was morfit 4.0, althow is a great engine and you can do lots of things with it, I'm moving to TV as it is more flexible and has much more features than state, besides that it is so frustrating to pay for for a $900 licence that won't let you remove the state log window from the program, (for that you need a $6.900 license), TV has great landscape features, like splatt textures, and minimeshes, shaders, normal mapping, and has a lot of predefined features, like particles, rain (haven't tested that one yet) that you don't have in state(they say they do have shaders, but they just have 5 lousy effects). this are some screen shots of state, as someone said, programmers are not the finest 3d artists. anyways this can be very much improved using TV. I just arrived to TV and I started working on the game terrain right away, There is no way I can have this kind of terrain with 3dstate. Even if you work with sattelllite images as my work, or do game developement (as my hobby) TV is far ahead from state, or any other I know, besides supporting VB and VB.net, cuts programing times and costs. This is the terrain so far, I need to solve some minimesh issues, but that is for another topic.

Hi scottpipper, welcome onboard. Those look like nice screens! Art can always be created in one way or another, but engine features are a different issue. I'm sure you will make those screens look even better with tv3d, and I hope from now on you will do your research a bit more before venturing into something. I'm really not sure you can really compare the engines, as tv3d really has so much more. Plus, once you get into it, you will see you can pretty much add anything it doesnt have to it via DirectX internals, but you probably won't need to. Looking forward to seeing you make progress. Search the boards for questions and make sure to view the newbie tutorials. Good luck!

Your 3DState screenshots look very good for that engine!
And your TV3D terrain looks awesome. Can't wait to see a more finished result.
I've abandoned 3DState since the support has been pretty much zero the last 4 years, they still haven't developed a handy and good looking way of alpha channels, and some other reasons. I'll try TV3D now.

It took a lot of effort to make state look like that, TV is like a walk in the park after using so many years state engine. Here is the terrain, just finished a function that places minimesh objects using alpha. Finally I got a tool that allows me to make realistic 3d scenery. Still needs a lot of work, and I will have trees on it by monday.

This looks fantastic scott! You should post more hi-resolution shots in the Showcase forum to get more visibility, they're some of the best-looking shots in TV3D I've seen in a while!

I hope I'll be going just as fast in TV as you, also coming from State! But I'm afraid my talents are somewhat smaller than yours...

I use a lot of tools, Image editors, Fractal designers, GIS softwares, Modeling softwares, photo cameras, video cameras, and the most powerfull tool, observation and patience. Maybe if I have the time I'll make a tutorial on this, there are a lot of steps involved on it.

If you could port your game to the graphical quality you're showing already in TV, you will get an AWESOME game.

Well, this is how the scenery is right now, I'll start to add objects later this week. I see my life with state fading to black

It's starting to look good!! You also work very fast. Maybe you should try some more versions of the palm tree leaves. They look a bit too much like a surf board now. Perhaps make them a bit torn. Also maybe adding another type of tropical tree, with a different shade of green? I know it's a work in progress, and looking at you State shots, you know all that, but anyway. I'm impressed with your work! I can't wait to see the progress. Maybe you should move or copy this to your own project thread on this board? That way more people will find it. Keep up the good excellent work!

Your right, but I just replaced the palmtrees for another model I made that looks more tropical, unlike the bushes you have to make at least 5 different trees.
I'm fast, but not that fast, remember I had all these developement for 3dstate allready.

WOW!!!! Great foliage! With a little imagination, this looks like Crysis. The graphical quality is certainly better than Far Cry 1, but ofcourse a little less than Crysis. Amazing project!

Looking good! However, there are many artefacts on the palm leafs and alpha fighting on almost every bush. You may want to disable shadowing where dot(n, l) < 0.

I thought 3dState was dead long ago. I started out with morfit for a while, then it changed to 3dstate, but couldn't get good enough results and then came to TrueVision. I can't believe they're still around! I thought they died!
