Is native Lightwave support going to be introduced?

[Edit]
Just bought Ultimate Unwrap3D which can convert between 3DStudioMax, Lightwave3D and .x file formats (amongst others).

Native support would be a big plus for TV3D though as it would then support 3DStudioMax, Maya and Lightwave3D - the top 3 industry used formats.  Conversion programs can sometimes have limitations - like animation for example.

The problem is that there are important other packages too such as XSI.
It's annoying to create and maintain for each new version of the modeler.

It's why in the future we will probably add support for "general" formats such as Collada or FBX.

Ok, but along with Maya those 3D Programs are used in the film and game industry - so would attract a certain kudos for Truevision3D.

I am actually working on the documentation for the content pipeline now, and in doing so I am researching the roadmap for future plugins.  This one has come up a few times, so I'll be looking into it further.

I wrote a collada -> tvm in about a week with the examples out there, unfortunately its for a specific flavor (sic) of collada (3d pdf) so probably not much use. also only does static objects and not animations etc.

Native collada support would be great, but it wouldn't be an easy task as everybody does things a little differently.

If somebody wants a collada solution i'd be willing to have a crack at it, but would need an incentive  Grin

Sylvain and I have discussed Collada support in the past -- there is a spec out there for us to look at.  There is just SO much in the spec, I would have a hard time knowing where to stop.  I'll take another look this weekend.
