I have made my RPG Maker (Realm Magic) available for downloading and directing the attention of this news toward the True Vision Community where I hope would receive the most interest of making this into more of a team project. I have stated many times in the past that there is so much potential for my project and if it became a team project the potentials will be fulfilled. I am currently developing a new way of the data editing for the editor which makes creating new games go smoother. I am going with a grid layout for editing characters, items, spells, character classes along with ways to quickly select data. If you feel you would like to be a part of this team, please contact me at admin@petermeyer.net or borg5of11pete@yaoo.com (also Yahoo IM) links: http://rmzone.petermeyer.net

Well, I don't want to be negative, but going open source, only for those who will help you developing it, and disabling distribution of source... this is not "open source", IMO

In essence, I agree with dazkona. By the definitions available for "open source software", your RPG maker is NOT oss. I think you should consider a different term (I don't know if this is "officially" a type of software) like "restricted source".
In my opinion, to make it truly open source, you need to remove the module restriction, at the very least, and maybe set up a page at sourceforge.
Don't get me wrong, Pete, as I mean no offense.

OK, I apoligize about the Open Source, should say Limited Open Source or Restricted Source. The Source Code is available for downloading without any restriction modules in place, and will be removing it from the main compiled package version in the near future. I do not usually replace the compiled package until I have done some testing the next upgrade.
Now I do admit my goal is not to make a RPG maker not entirely geared toward graphics. Matter of fact, I think too many games out there are put on the market just to look pretty, but die quickly because they not do all that much. I do favor functionality and ease of use in a RPG maker. Like I say, the potential for such a project is limited by the time and resources of the programmers. I would like to see it do a whole much more and it could be acheived with work being done by more programmers than just myself.

I've got two (maybe three) questions.
First, what language(s) is (are) eing used to develop this software? Second, which (of the three) files on your download page need downloaded to work on the project?
And third, your site says the zip file(s) is password protected...I'd like to at least take a look at what you have so far, and maybe help on this project in some way...could you PM me the password?

None of my zip files are now password protected since the release of the project. Prior to now, these files were password protected and the compile versions deactivated after 90 days.
The language used is Visual Basic 6, and looking into upgrading to VB.Net 2005. older version of VB.Net was not compatible with what I have written. I attempted to convert to VB.Net.2005, but do see it requires some re-writing the source code to make it compatible.

I downloaded it (the source code), but got "unexpected end of file" messages. I tried a repair, but only got a SMALL part of the file(s).
I'll try again, and see if the site still has the password stuff on it.

The source code package does include all the necessary media files, however does not include any of the sample games. There are sample games on my webpage and can be extacted to the same directory as the source code.
Now you see there are you versions of the builder source code, both using different ways to edit the database. Earlier version used the tradional way to edit records, one at a time. Newer version is using a grid to edit the table along with attachments to help edit the data. The older method is alittle easier to follow, but more tedious to setup a larger game. The datagrid version does open up this RPG maker to more possibilites for features yet to come.

Michael Did the download complete? If you are on older dial up modem or lower end ISP, you might get a partial download.

good that you were able to download. I recently discovered some bugs and will keep working on some upgrading myself. I will like to get my own community going relating to this project as my website has its own forum. http://rmzone.petermeyer.net

Thankyou for taking time to review my work. I am currently re-engineering Realm Magic with the goals of having better graphics, and making everything easier and less confusing for everybody. Re-engineering the way things are put together does mean all the game files will have to updated to work with the newer version. I am still seeking co-programmers interested and will release the re-engineered software to them before making things public. This re-engineering is the result of suggestions made to me over the years about the way things were put together. I do hope a few out there can provide me with some insight, so please send me a message. Send me an instant message, email, or an post on here or my board.

Compiled New version 2.0, first nonl beta is available for downloading. I am still looking for bug reports that I can correct with future releases of the software. I have decided to abandone the open sourc aspect of this project due to lack of interest, have not provided updated source code in months. I will be changing back to closed source with updates soon. Recent improvements lead to consolidation of components, and removal of older and obsolete to meet a goal of providing and easy way of making Role Playing Games. New versions are new features that makes its use easier and quicker. That is my whole goal of re-engineering the thing. The source code will be made available in the near future, most likely will start as limited or closed soure. I am continuuing looking to enlist aid of other developers. I am currently busy with tweaking and debugging this version. Please stop by my home page and check things out.
