Discipline in training

« on: June 03, 2008, 11:29:43 AM »

Hello.
I know, not much of a title for a game. Problebly already taken by somthing. But here is my idea: You are a pilot in a rescue operation flying a hover craft in a futuristic environment. You goal is to rescue deflecting refugees and civilians from terrists regions. I plan for the game to have 3 phasis on each level: Securing a landing site near a building; infiltration of the building and rescue; boarding, taking off and escape from the region. I plan for user control of the hover craft during phasis 1 and 3 while phase 2 there will be user control of the pilot on foot.

Here is a video of the progress I have made thus far:

I also realize that I still have quite a bit to go. It was only recently that I actually came up with a full (generalized) plan. I still have to design the pilot actor, along with the refugees, civilians, hostages, possibly even enemey guards. I know I have to design the city and enemy hover crafts but was prepared to do so well before I came up with the idea of making this into a game. I also have to work on the landscape, design and texture. I think the middle phase may proove to be the most challenging

Sounds like an interesting design! The video could be a bit brighter. The hovercraft seems to hover nicely (I can remember reading a thread about hovercrafts in these pages).

wow this is really cool! the damn things seems to be quite challenging to fly! I like how you detach the pieces when crashing and having the particle systems following those pieces.

Okay, long time no update. Here is a new video:

In this video I have re-textured the landscape, added fog, and added the cross-hairs. Also notice the ship can shoot.

That looks awesome! You know what might really put it over the top? If you could add a small lag between the cross-hair target and the movement/response of the ship. A second or two after you move the target the ship slowly catches up with it. It might add a little extra challenge to driving that sucker and make it feel more real somehow.
