Hello !
Here are the links to my game page, take a look.
It'll be a persistent world where you'll can be a merchant, pirate, bounty hunter, all of this in a ship and online with other players. It's current in alpha stage, but has come screenshots.
I'm using TV3d 6.2, OpenAL and RakNet. I'm using my own gui system, it's simple, with only things i need for the moment.
Enjoy!

Hi !
I´m alone in this project, just for fun, i love programming, speccially games, since 11 :-)
So i´m doing all the work: site, graphics, programming, and all that besides hard work, wife and dog. So my focus at the moment is programming the basis, after that i´ll focus in visual ( in-game and site ). Some images i got from free pics sites, some i did myself...
I´m using C++ as language ( with visual c++ express 2005 ).

Enjoy!

Awesome man!

What did you use for the client/server (networking) code? Or did you write it all yourself?

Thanks a lot !
For network i use RakNet, but i'm implementing the protocol for the game myself, just use raknet for connectivity and send/receive data.

Cool. Yeah I have Raknet, but I am more along the lines of a c# coder.

I wonder if they have any wrappers for c#?

I have used the MultiComm framework example from Microsofts page for a mobile application I wrote for a client at work. It worked pretty good for a small number of clients/1 server, etc.

I am almost afraid to use it though for an online game, it just had a lot of issues..(the socket programming is pretty lose). I bet it would break all to heck with a few hundred people hammering it. hehe

It looks like a skirmish type of game rather than an RPG, Right?

Count me in for Beta, or otherwise .....

Yeah, It´s look like Pirates! or Tortuga, but it´s full 3D and online, no single player available.
I´m thinking creating a tutorial-like single player for present the game, controls, so on, or an online tutorial map for the same purpose, like a starter map in a "secure" way where one player can´t attack other, just NPC ( non player character ), but you can´t make a decent carreer in that map, just to learn the basis, when you think you are read, you can jump to the "main"  map.
Just ideas ... There´is a forum exclusive to ideias in the site, i hope people can give many of them  Cheesy
Thanks

Unfortunatelly after man problems i guess i'll give up this project using TV3D. All of a sudden ( more than one time since i started a few months ) the compilation presents error without changing the source. These "adaptation" to c++ is very problematic.
I've tried many engines ( 8, both free and commercial ) for a while and chose TV3D as the best for my suits, but the difficulties to put it to work in C++ is a drawback for the moment.
Since i'm unable to buy the licence ( just married ) and don't want to wait until 6.5 is finished ( maybe this year or probably in 2007 ? ) i guess i'll play around with other engine.
Sorry for those who were waiting something new in my project.
Many thanks

You know, the SEARCH capability in the forums can be quite usefull. The IRC too (i haven't used it though). I haven't read your posts (11 of them total with 7 of them in this thread) but it seems that you haven't placed much trust to the power of the community help. I'm quite certain that there are users that work on C#, C++ and other languages, so why not give it a try in the forum.

Anyway, i don't want to be a dumbass (i may be missing something), that's your call. I'm just presenting my point. You know better ....

Good luck on your project ...

Hi micmanos !

First of all, i'm sorry for my previous post, i was really upset yesterday
After some days trying to put tv3d to work with msvc++ 2005 express i put a post with the steps to the community, and a walkthrough to use CEGUI with them both.
One of the great point in TV3D is it's community ( forum, support, so on ), and it one of the best and easiest engine ( powerfull too, besides being that easy ). But since it's hard to use in C++ ( besides vc++ 6.0 ), that's why when i got it work i put a post about it.
The actual problem is not a tv3d issue but probably a dx one and tv3d needs dx8 not 9 ( in c++ you have to link to dx8vb.dll ) and the media support is not available ( but it's not a problem i'm using openal for example ).
I'm trying to reinstall dx9 ( december ) again, let's see ... Because i really like tv3d and i guess i'll love 6.5 which will be much easier to use in c++ and it's new features that i'll need soon.
I just hope that i'll be able to buy a licence or 6.5 is released soon ...

thanks

Yea unfortunately 6.2 hasn't a good c++ support. I can tell you it will be totally changed with 6.5 c++ native interface.

Sorry about these problems!

Hi all !

I'm honored to see the great Sylvain in my post  Cheesy
First, i managed put it to work again. I don't know what happened, why it stopped to work suddenly, but i change some project options and it's ok again.
The most strange is that i was just programming some new functions about movement and now i have to use some options in the project that i never needed before. I will put a new tutorial about using TV3D in Visual C++ 2005 Express soon with screenshot too ...
And Sylvain, that's not your fault or engine fault. You guys are doing one of the best engines and porting it to C++, which will be fantastic. As soon as i get some extra $$ i'll buy it ( just bought an apartament, just married, just bought a dog  Cheesy )

Many thanks
Lanso

PS: If someone need some help with it while the tutorial is not finished, please send an email ok ?

Hi all !
Just to inform the actual situation of the game:
- You enter a login/password and it's validated by the server that grants the connection
- You already see other players in your screen
- Global message system almost done. You can send messages to all others in the game ( for easy debug ), and see the last 4 messages, i'll change it so as to see the whole history later.
- Complete night and day system ( changing the skybox, water texture, lights, so on )

I'm about to finish the movement part, after that i'll be able to put the demo in the site ok ? You'll be able to log in, move, talk and exit  Smiley

Thanks
