I just thought I'd let some of you guys know that I've released a BETA version of my terrain editor, Freeworld3D 2.0. I would really appreciate anyone that will beta test it and report any bugs or suggestions for improvement before the final release. You can dwonlaod it here along with 2 sample maps. There is also a PDF documentation file that shows most of the features and how to use them.

Looks like very cool stuff, but I get really wierd bugs probably associated with the water shader :

It happens on both sample maps. Are you using TV's built-in water or nVidia's ocean shader?
I have a ATi Radeon 9700 Pro video card, with the latest drivers. This card supposedly supports full shader model 2.0, but I've known compatibility issues with FX Composer's shaders.

I dont think this is using Truevision3d. (I cant confirm this.) But this is pretty cool none the less.

I'm not sure what the bug is.  Are those lines all over the image the bug you are talking about?  I'm not sure if the lines are the bug or if they're just from the image being displayed in the browser.

Also, what graphics card are you using.  You need to be able to support GLSL pixel shaders.

The bug is that the landscape is all messed up, polygons keep appearing and disappearing and being crosshatched, like you see in the screenshot. That's what's displayed on my screen when I'm in the program.
I already mentionned what videocard I had, an ATi Radeon 9700 Pro, and yes it does support GLSL shaders (I tried samples a while ago).

That's very strange then.  Do you have the latest drivers installed?  I've tested Freeworld3D on a Radeon 9800 Pro, Radeon 9800 XT, Geforce 6600, Geforce 6800GT, Geforce 6800 Ultra and it ran just fine on all of those machines.

But I will try and look into this.

Dunno if that helps you, but it's definitely realted to the water.
Here's a shot below the water...

Notice how what's below is rendered alright, and what's above is completely fuxx0r3d.

BTW, I checked and I actually did not have the latest drivers, now I do, and the same thing happens. Hee.

Hi all,

Might also be related to the Z-Buffer itself, check your clipping planes, I recently got the same problems with planets and stellar systems, which use no water whatsoever...

The post is here, it contains some interesting details about the Z-Buffer mechanism and parameters : Problem with 3D objects visibility for Stellar System Editor

However there might be another buffer just for water rendering, working on the same principles and thus giving the same effects... of that I don't know...

Try disable water reflections and just add a regular water texture.  See if that fixes the problem.

its all rendered correctly when there is nothing behind the object / face... so if i disable the sky, the hill, where only the emptyness is behind, is rendered correctly

Does it happen when you guys turn the water completely off?  You could also try going to the "Settings" tab in the Control Panel and adjusting the Near and Far Clip Planes.  Perhaps setting the Far Plane to a lower value may help a little.
