Hi,

Just a quick note that Mith and I have released phpChess for the PC. It is using Truevision6.5 and can do a few neat things:

- online play
- play against AI
- Load libraries of games and view replays
- PLay peer to Peer over IP
- 3D and 2D display

You can download it here: http://www.phpchess.com/phpchess_for_pc.html
license mode is: unlimited trial but please buy if used. All materials are (c) phpchess Limited. Mith worked his heart out and it will get regular updates.

Have fun and let us know what you think. All feedback welcome (but be gentel please!)

THE PHPCHESS IS A LIE!

Everyone knows Mith is incapable of finishing this project.  This is vaporware I tell you!

very nice project, but I found a problem Sad  I decided to check it out and play with a friend and other than not being able to peer to peer together we were able to join online just fine.  we played a game and got most of the way through it before my friend made a move and there was two problems with it: 1st my buddy moved a piece that I had knocked out awhile ago (supposedly) and I guess something did not register down the line.  The second problem was that I was never allowed to move after that, but that could be due to the fact that he did move a piece that shouldn't have existed.

Otherwise, nice game, looks good and plays well otherwise.

Hi,

Thanks for the kind feedback. I wish I could compile the project in 64bit as well...maybe once everyone here buys a license I can afford to buy 2008 Professional. Wink

Makubab:thanks for testing. This feedback is very useful. Can you feedback info on the following:

a) which server did you use? (I assume phpChess.com)
b) which users played the game?
c) when did you create the game?

This will allow me to check if the server got this one wrong of if phpChess for the pC got it wrong. We'll fix things from there. You can always check the online game on the server (in most cases probably http://www.phpchess.com/phpchess/. Log-In and you should see a mygames list.

odd that peer to peer didn't work. Did you try the wiki help on connecting? http://www.phpchess.com/wiki/doku.php?id=phpchess_for_pc and scroll down to Configuring Direct Games (ip2ip) - that reminds me...I must change the screenshots.

Thanks for your help and feedback

Sunday, Sept 28th I played one in the evening (general American time) under the name Mku against Zenethus.  Sept 27th we played one too, phpChess.com, both times same general problem.

Sorry, no we didn't look at the readMe for peer to peer, were in a rush to find something that worked for Chess since Yahoo wasn't working...

Hi Makubab,

Excellent error to have discovered. I can see that the server plays it correctly and that the client has the issue. This seems to happen when two identical pieces can go for the same square from different source squares. The server "remembers" what was going on, but the PGN notation it creates is faulty.  We will look into how we can solve this best. It's not a trivial error but a good one to know about.

Thank you for your help. Keep them coming!
