This is a Semi RPG that I had on the back burner for some time. It was never completed because I got involved with other projects. I might be looking to bring in others to assist with the work. I was working on a variant under a different name to avoid legal problems. To use the Car Wars or Audoduel would require authorization from Steve Jackson.

See: http://www.sjgames.com/carwars/ for details. I was going to based mine loosely around the original Autoduel 2D game that was available on the Commodore 64, Atari 8-bit (800XL), Apple II, IBM DOS PC, etc. Its ok if you don't remember the game. I am looking to use elements of a racing/driving game and add lot more stuff to it. With me being tied up with other projects right now it won't happen unless I know there are lots of people who demand to have such a game.

I am going to be watching views and replies to this thread.

I had the project started in Visual Basic with the Revolution3D engine. One reason why I abandoned it was all the issues I had with Revolution 3D (buggy, long wait for upgrades, lack of backwards compatibility from prior versions.). The candidates are VB.Net + Truevision3D 6.5 or Dark Basic Pro. I am not going to port to C, since it is started in VB6, just too much more work.

haha, very funny!  I'm actually working an actual Car Wars game right now, purely for personal use with my buddies.  Still play Car Wars on the table top, so I figured I'd try to put it into TV for kicks.  Other than the craziness that is collision in a turn based game, things are going well.

Autoduel, ooof, there was a stinker of a game.  All the good qualities of the design portion of Car Wars and then no tactical element whatsoever!

I did like Autoduel, but more for the RPG element that was in the game. I cannot say Autoduel is a great game and take into consideration of the mid 1980s systems it was played on. I am porting over to a fast pace chase view action game with RPG elements.

That sounds more fun than Autoduel...are you going to be able to build up your cars from scratch?  That has always been the most fun aspect of Car Wars to me.

Yes, that is what I am planning along with putting in more types of vehicles like SUVs and Hummers. I may not do electric vehicles and simple armor points, but use Gasoline and that ethanol fuel made from corn. For Armor, have Kevlar, Steal Plated types. Make it more plausible future. Is not going to based in a post Nuclear Holocaust and working on a different back story.  Also doing several things different to avoid copyright issues. Autoduel is probably long in public domain right now, but Car Wars copyright probably been renewed several times over.
